When you order a 1/2 pig from Hidden Spring Farm, you have the flexibility to customize every cut according to your preferences. This package is perfect for larger families looking to stock up their freezer or for anyone interested in saving money by purchasing in bulk. Sold by Hanging Weight:
Our 1/2 pig option is sold by the hanging weight of the animal, which is the weight after the hide, head, and entrails have been removed. We charge $4.30/lb on the hanging weight, plus approximately $2.50/lb for butchering costs.
Average Hanging Weight:
The hanging weight for a 1/2 pig typically falls between 115-140lbs. Please note that weight may vary as nature does not create all pigs the exact same size.
Butcher Date Assignment:
Upon making your deposit, we will assign you the next available butcher date. Alternatively, you may request a specific time of year that you prefer by leaving a comment in the 'special instructions' section during checkout. When your butcher date arrives, we will notify you and connect you directly with our butcher to discuss cutting instructions.
Payment and Refund Policy:
The balance for your order must be paid at pickup, and we accept cash, check, or Venmo only. Please be aware that deposits are non-refundable.
Freezer Space Requirements:
Depending on the weight of your customized cuts, you'll need ample freezer space to store your half pig. We recommend ensuring you have enough room to accommodate approximately 2 cubic feet per 50 pounds of meat.
